Newb Shader

Newb Shader, also known as Newb X Legacy, is a lightweight shader that keeps the vanilla style and simply makes it look better. Blocks and textures stay familiar, while lighting, sky, water and weather get a soft, natural finish without putting much load on performance.

Light, Sky and Color

Lighting is soft and full of small details, and tone mapping gives the whole world its own recognizable color tone. The sky is bright and natural, clouds turn softer and change when it rains, and the End gets a new sky of its own. The moon looks three-dimensional and goes through all its phases, while the sun stays smooth and close to the original look. At night, auroras appear overhead and shift over time.

Water and Weather

Water is calm and clean without being demanding. Diving in switches the view to a bluish fog with soft caustics and light streaks. Rain is one of the features players like most about this shader, and a layer of fog blends into the horizon with extra mist on top, giving distant terrain a real sense of depth.

Small Details

Several smaller effects make the world feel more alive:

• Grass, leaves, vines and crops sway gently.


• Lanterns swing, a touch you rarely see in Bedrock shaders.


• Ores glow and shimmer in the dark, so they are easier to spot.


• Mobs and other entities have a soft ambient light around them.


• Enchanted items get a fancier glint.
