Companion Cube

Companion Cube recreates the storage cube from Portal as an oversized block sculpture. Each face carries the familiar layout: a pale panel in the center with a pink heart on it, corners beveled with gray trim, and dark seams running out from the middle to divide the sides into quarters. The beveling is the part that takes work, since the edges are cut back on every corner so the cube reads as a rounded object rather than a plain box.

The cube is hollow, and the inside is where it gets interesting. The inner walls repeat the same heart panels and seams in a darker gray, so standing in the middle puts you inside the object instead of just looking at it. It's a simple shape done carefully, and for anyone who knows the game it reads instantly as a landmark or a room in its own right.
